Students may participate in an internship for ZOOL 4710 credit. Previous internships completed by students include those with state and federal agencies, LTER sites, REUs, aquariums, zoos, conservation organizations, environmental consulting firms and other industry-based opportunities. Internships provide students with valuable hands-on experiences in a professional setting, with experiences varying depending on the type of internship.
Students participating in undergraduate research will work directly with a faculty mentor on a research project. Research opportunities are extremely diverse and encompass all major animal groups, including invertebrates, fishes, amphibians, reptiles, birds, and mammals, as well as plant-animal interactions. Research ranges from the cellular level to the ecosystem and/or landscape level. S-STEM scholars also may present their research findings at a professional society meeting attended with their faculty mentor and will be encouraged to join and participate in professional societies.
S-STEM scholars will be encouraged to join and be actively involved in relevant student organizations on campus. A chapter of Tri-Beta, the National Biological Honor Society recently formed at OSU.
